The Bluegrass Writing Project's (BGWP) mission is to improve the teaching of writing and learning in Kentucky schools, especially in Central Kentucky, by nurturing and supporting critical, reflective, highly professional teachers. In order to achieve the mission, BGWP seeks to align practices and programs with a set of five core values, expressed as “The Five Cs”:  Content, Community, Collaboration, Connections, Confidence.

BGWP offers the diverse group of Kentucky teaching professionals access to professional development opportunities based on the successful models produced in the National Writing Project that emphasize knowledge, expertise, and leadership.

BGWP focuses on improving teachers’ understanding of learning and pedagogy by providing professional networking and by offering out-reach activities designed to increase education equity, promote social diversity, and implement knowledge-based standards of practice for the teaching of writing.
